Exceptionally beautiful and tranquil, the south Indian state of Kerala is characterised by meandering rivers, rice fields, spice plantations, verdant hills and palm-fringed beaches. This gently paced tour takes in the most enchanting areas including the charming port of Cochin and the backwaters, which can be explored by boat to provide a wonderful glimpse into rural village life.
     
             
  Day 1:  
Arrive- Cochin :
Fly from London to Cochin, via Abu Dhabi with Gulf Air.

  Day 2:  
Cochin :
Early morning arrival in Cochin, the historic centre of India’s spice trade. Transfer to Le Meridien / Malabar House for a 3 night stay, including immediate occupancy. Afternoon cruise around Cochin harbour. Evening tour briefing.
   
             
  Day 3:  
Cochin :
Morning tour of Cochin including Jewtown, the Chinese fishing nets and St Francis Church, dating back to 1503. Continue to the Mattancherry Palace, a gift from the Portuguese to the Raja of Cochin in 1515. Optional evening excursion to watch a Kathakali dance performance (payable locally).
  Coconut Lagoon  
           
  Day 4:  
Cochin - Kumarakom :
Drive to Muhamma Jetty, situated on the backwaters, and take a boat to the Kumarakom Lake Resort / Taj Garden Retreat / Coconut Lagoon for 2 nights. Evening sunset cruise on the waters of Lake Vembanad.
   
             
  Day 5:  

Kumarakom - Backwaters :
Drive to Alleppey for a cruise through the narrow canals and inland waterways, seeing rural life unchanged for centuries.

  Thekkady  
           
  Day 6:  
Backwaters - Thekkady :
Morning drive through the Western Ghats to Thekkady, a beautiful area of tea gardens, rubber estates and coffee and pepper plantations located high in the Cardamom Hills. Afternoon at leisure. Stay for 2 nights at the Spice Village / Taj Garden Retreat.
   
             
  Day 7:  
Thekkady :
Morning at leisure. Afternoon visit to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.
     
             
  Day 8:  
Thekkady - Kovalam :
Drive to the costal resort of Kovalam and stay overnight at Travancore Heritage / Le Meridien.
     
             
  Day 9:  
Kovalam - London :
Morning drive to Trivandrum and fly to London, via Abu Dhabi with Gulf Air.
