Following the silk route |
| |
On crossing the 18,640 feet high Khardung La pass we enter Nubra valley. In the olden times Nubra was part of the famous old Central Asian trade route known as the "Silk Road" along which the trade from Yarkand in Central Asia and Mongolia was carried out trading in their famous Yarkandi carpets, wool and silks. Nubra valley is open, wide and situated on the banks of Skyok & Nubra rivers. We explore the villages of Hunder, Diksit & Sumoor and embark on a camel safari with some of the Bactrian camels that remain in the valley from the glory days of the Silk trade. |
