TREKKING IN LADAKH:
Ladakh offers some of the best trek in Indian Himalayas. If you look back into the history of Ladakh, the region has been a destination for many great explorers and eager travelers. The great Hungarain explorer "Cosmo De Koros" trekked into Zanskar valley in the late summer of 1825 and explored the monastery of Phugtal, he is believed to have a stayed for a year in Zanskar. Similarly, in 1821-22, the eminent travelers William Moorcraft & George Trebeck trekked through the Markha valley while on their way to Karakuram pass. On the other hand since 3rd century BC, many pilgrims form Kashmir valley has trekked to visit Mt.Kailash in western Tibet. For majority of Ladakhis themselves until 1960's, trekking was the only option of traveling from one village to another. |
